Heat Pump Maintenance Tasks for Homeowners:

• Keep the outdoor unit clear of any dirt, debris, grass clippings, and leaves.
• With light pressure, use a hose and soft brush to clear the aluminum fins on the outdoor unit of airborne debris. Be careful not to bend the fins.
• Monitor the thermostat to make sure it is working correctly. Ideally, the heat pump should turn on when the temperature dips below or above the set temp (depending on whether you are heating or cooling). The fan should run on auto.

A common question we get regarding heat pumps is that the air exiting the registers feels cool even when it is set to heat. The air from the registers is heated to roughly 90 to 95 degrees, depending on the outside temperature. The temperature the heat pump expels is typically 20-25 degrees warmer than the indoor air temperature and won't have a problem heating your home.
